Migrating to Shopify: what's involved?

A Shopify migration is more than transferring data. It's the opportunity to restructure your webshop, improve performance, and sharpen your e-commerce strategy. A good migration preserves your SEO value, prevents downtime, and ensures customers and orders transfer seamlessly.

The key steps: data export from your current platform, data transformation to Shopify format, import into Shopify, 301 redirects for SEO, reorganization of navigation and collections, and reconnecting integrations like Channable and your accounting.

Channify has performed dozens of migrations from Magento, WooCommerce, Lightspeed, CCV Shop, and custom platforms to Shopify. We migrate without downtime and preserve your SEO value.

The migration in 5 steps

1

Audit and planning

We analyze your current platform, catalog size, custom functionality, and integrations. You receive a migration plan with fixed price and timeline.

2

Data export and transformation

We export data from your current platform and transform it to Shopify format. Products, customers, orders, and pages are prepared.

3

Build Shopify store

We build your new Shopify store with theme, navigation, collections, payment methods, and shipping rules. Everything is tested in a preview environment.

4

Import and testing

We import all data, set up 301 redirects, connect Channable, and test the checkout on desktop and mobile.

5

Go-live and aftercare

At the agreed moment, we switch the DNS. Your old shop goes offline, the new Shopify store goes live. We monitor the first days.

Frequently asked questions about Shopify migration

How long does a Shopify migration take?

A simple migration (small catalog, little custom functionality) takes 2-3 weeks. A complex migration from Magento with 10,000+ products, custom modules, and multiple integrations can take 4-8 weeks. The timeline depends on data quality, catalog size, and your availability for feedback.

Will I lose my Google rankings?

No, if the migration is done correctly. We set up 301 redirects from all old URLs to the new Shopify URLs, preserve meta data and structured data, and check indexing via Google Search Console after go-live. Your rankings are preserved.

What does a Shopify migration cost?

A standard migration starts from €1,400. For migrations from Magento or complex platforms with lots of data and custom functionality, expect €3,000-€10,000+. The price depends on catalog size, number of integrations, and the complexity of your current platform.

Can I keep my Channable configuration?

Yes. Channable is platform-agnostic: we reconnect your existing Channable account to Shopify. Your feed rules and channel configuration are preserved. Only the data source changes from your old platform to Shopify.

My old webshop has custom functionality. Can that go to Shopify?

Most custom functionality can be reproduced in Shopify with apps or custom development. Some very specific functionality (like complex B2B price lists per customer) requires Shopify Plus. We assess per functionality whether and how it can be transferred.

What happens to my old webshop after migration?

Your old webshop keeps running until the DNS is switched. After that, we turn it off or redirect everything to the new Shopify store. We keep a backup of your old data in case you need something from the old environment.
